Today August 9th 2012 is sister Ellie Mae's Birthday/ Gottcha day, it was four years ago today the she came to be with us If you have a moment I will tell you how this came to be.....
Dad and his Mom my Grandma (human) were down stairs very early drinking coffee, well Dad needed a refill on his coffee so up stairs to the kitchen they came Dad looked out the big glass door onto the deck and there stood a very very skinny Basset hound looking in the door...... Dad being the Basset lover he is went outside to check her out, she did have a collar but no tag and she was very hungry and thirsty. So Dad and Grandma got her some food and water they set the bowls on the deck and this skinny hound went head long into the food and water!!!
Dad went back in the house and got Mom and told her about the hound on the deck, Mom came down and took a look and that was that. A call to the vet and Ellie was on her way for a check up and a check for a chip.... Health was good (skinny but fine) and no micro chip.... An add was put in the local paper and after a week Ellie Mae became an official member of the family!!!
After four years Ellie is no longer skinny and she has really fit in so very well here at home I am so happy she is here with us....
As some of you know my sister Cindy Lou left us for the Rainbow bridge on May 23rd of this year we all miss her but I think Ellie Mae misses her the most. But enough of that we are getting ready for one heck of a party after work today!!!! So if you would send a Birthday Gottcha day wish Ellie Mae's way!!!!

Hello again, I know I have not been writing like I should, I promise I will do better!!! I would like to thank everyone for reading and for commenting on my blog!!!!
Now on to what happened this weekend it was very HOT and Humid not a good time to be outside at all!!! Mom and Dad decided to stay home and do some inside chores.... Those chores included giving all of us a ugh....... Bath!!!! Oh how I hate getting a bath I just get to smelling "good" and Dad gives me a bath now I smell just like a great BIG apple!!! How am I supposed to be a big boy Basset when I smell like this???? Anyway I was not the only one to get a bath.... Dad has to pick us short leggers up and put us in the tub Alex (Bloodhound) can just step in us Bassets need held, well Dad got Dolly first then me then Alex and then Ellie Mae. Keep in mind Ellie weighs about 95 pounds and does NOT like to get bathed at all, so she tends to wiggle in Dads arms( boy I wish I had a pic of this) Dad has her up in his arms and she is wiggling like a big fat snake Dad almost drops her then catches her and they both plop into the tub together both unhurt but Dad said some words a young boy like me should NOT hear!!!! heheheheheheh........ I wish I had thumbs to video this stuff!!!! Well we all got bathed and we all smell so ....... Nice....
After we were nice and clean Mom and Dad started on the house work they even shampooed all the carpets and cleaned my couch!!!!
With all the house work done the foodies started!!!! We had grilled chicken grilled steaks and even some pork chops!!!! I guess all in all not a bad weekend(steak makes everything better).....
Next time I will start the story of all my friends and of course of my Lub Lovey Basset Smith!!!!!

I was going to continue my life's story today but I got some very upsetting news early this morning... A very good friend and a GREAT hound has left this world and gone on to the Rainbow bridge, Scully Hook a very beautiful Basset girl left us yesterday after fourteen years with her family, she leaves behind her Mom and Dad and her sister Daisy, Please if you can today send a little prayer or warm thought to Scully's family because I know they sure can use it....On May 23rd of this year my Basset sister Cindy left for the Rainbow bridge, so I would like to dedicate today's blog to those two WONDERFUL hounds Cindy and Scully may you both run free at the bridge and know how much you were and are loved by the ones you left behind!!!
I must add just one more thing today, my sister Cindy had a fiance named Baxter they had a love affair that will last forever, when Cindy left for the bridge Dad was with her and told her how much her family loved her and also how much her Baxta loved her too!!!! I know she and Scully are up there now and having a great time!!!!

Sister Ellie Mae.
One very early and very hot August day in 2009 as Dad and I were enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the news downstairs in the family room, we heard a noise at the patio door..... Moments later we saw a cute Basset girl on the deck looking lost and tired, well what could we do???/ We opened the door and in walked Ellie Mae!! She was very tired and very hungry we gave her some water and some food then we had a talk about what to do with her. The first thing to do was take her to our vet and get her checked out, then run an add in the local paper and check with neighbors to see if anyone is missing her........ Well as you probably have guessed no one claimed her and now there are five of us hounds here!!!! This is Ellie Mae!!!! WELCOME to the family!!!! So now you have the back ground of "us hounds" There are five hounds one Mom and One Dad living here, oh yeah there is our bird Mickey but I will get to him later!!!

Well Mom and Dad were going to the local animal shelter to make some donations and what do they see????
A very small and very cute Basset girl well they talked about it and the next thing you know here comes sister Cindy!!!! Well Mom and Dad took her to the vet for a check up and brought her home I was not to sure about her but I was a gentleman.... Er gentlehound and welcomed her with open paws....
I know this is taking a while to get through but after I have all the back ground done I will get to the best part of my story!!! I PROMISE!!!!!! hang in here with me and it will be worth it!!!!

Still Friday June first 2012
When I first moved into my home my two sisters were very nice to me and Mom and Dad were so loving to me I knew I found the right home for me!!! I have been living here now for six and a half years and so far so good, the times between my arrival and now have been filled with many many adventures.... Most of them have been very good there have been a few times I would like to forget like when I got "fixed" ( I didn't know I was broken)... I also had a brush with cancer I am fine now but Mom and Dad were pretty scared at the time.
I know I am rambling but please bear with me and all this will make sense to you I promise!!!

Friday June first 2012.
This seems like a good day to start this blog and to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Byron and I am a seven year old Basset Hound, I have been told I am a rather handsome hound I will post some pics later and let you decide....
Some people are not familiar with Bassets and the people that they own, yes we own our people not the other way around.. If you follow this blog for a bit you will discover how and why.
I will begin my story with my first memories I was born on January 23 2005 in a kennel of a back yard breeder, this is not the best of beginnings nor the worst I was "adopted at six months of age by my Mom and Dad When I came into the house I live in now there was already a Basset hound (Dolly) and a Bloodhound (Alex). They are both females I guess you could call them my sisters, they both welcomed me nicely and I seemed to fit in rather well. I will continue my story and I promise to explain why Bassets are different than other breeds I will also explain why our people are different as well.... stay tuned for more.....
